CLAMPS is a collaborative effort between the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) and the University of Oklahoma (OU) School of Meteorology (SoM). The CLAMPS team thus spans many groups. The CLAMPS concept was brought to life through collaboration across teams and institutions. Doug Kennedy and Sherman Fredrickson were recognized for their contributions in building the CLAMPS facilities with a 2017 NOAA Administrator's Award: for the design, construction, testing and successful deployment of two remote sensing profiling systems for weather research and forecasting.
